Laura Oki, DNP, CNP, CNM, APRN, RN-C, has been a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) since 2015 and spent the 15 previous years as a labor and delivery nurse. She now provides low-risk midwifery care and women's health services at Reno Maternity Care in Reno, Nevada.
Laura completed an associate degree in nursing at Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, Nevada, in 1998, and a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona, in 2012. By 2015, Laura had also completed a master’s degree in nursing with an emphasis on nurse-midwifery, for which she studied at Frontier Nursing University in Hyden, Kentucky. She stayed at Frontier Nursing University for her Doctor in Nursing Practice degree, graduating in 2017.
Laura is nationally board-certified in nurse-midwifery by the American Midwifery Certification Board and holds NCC certification in fetal monitoring and inpatient obstetrics. She is a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American College of Nurse Midwives, the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses, and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
Laura’s philosophy views pregnancy and birth as normal and natural processes. She focuses on patient-centered care and encourages women to be fully involved in all decisions during pregnancy and delivery. Laura sees her role as being a partner to the expectant mother, providing her with the most reliable and accurate information available so she can make informed choices about her pregnancy.
Laura feels privileged to be a part of this most important and memorable time in a woman's life and aims to make the pregnancy and delivery experience as positive as possible.
