Genetic Counselor located in Reno, NV

About Ellen Zirkelbach

As a genetic counselor, I provide patients with information about genetic risks and what they can mean for a patient and their families. An important part of my role is to support the social and emotional wellbeing of patients through this complicated process.

In a pregnancy setting, I serve our patients by discussing how pregnancy and family history can impact the risk of having a child with a genetic condition. My main goals are to focus on your individual situation in order to meet your unique needs, to provide accurate and up-to-date information, and to aid in the decision-making process. My hope for my patients is that they leave with the tools they need to make the best testing choices for themselves, their pregnancy, and their family.

In a cancer setting, I provide information about hereditary forms of cancer. By reviewing both personal and family histories of cancer, I can assess whether an individual is at risk for a hereditary form of cancer. Importantly, there will be a discussion of possible test results, the limitations of this type of testing, and what results could mean for the patient and their family. In a cancer setting, genetic counseling can empower patients to take the best possible care of themselves and their families by understanding their genetic risks.
